Slingsby Maypole Refurbishment Notice

The Slingsby Maypole is getting refurbished between Friday 8th April and Tuesday 12th April.
This information notice has been issued by The Slingsby Maypolers committee.


We want to ensure all residents of The Green and surrounding properties are aware that the work will be taking place. We do not anticipate any additional noise or any inconvenience for the residents. You will notice the cherry picker vehicle on site which will be used by the decorating team. The dates mentioned are of course weather permitting. The Parish Council has been made aware. Our intention is to have a bright and shiny Maypole ready for the village Mayday celebrations on Monday 2nd May.

Slingsby Scarecrow Trail 2022

Friends of Slingsby School bring us the traditional Scarecrow Weekend from Saturday 30 April till Monday 2 May, when the May Day celebrations around the Maypole get into full swing.

Follow the trail from 10am to 4pm. Pop-up cafe in the Methodist Chapel, where trails can be picked up.

Attention all Scarecrow creatives! Last date for entering your scarecrow to be – Friday 1st April. Entry forms to School or by email (see form below on village website).

Slingsby’s May Day Celebration Returns

The Slingsby Maypolers have been working behind the scenes and are now pleased to announce the return of our May Day celebrations, with all the customary attractions, plus a refurbished Maypole!

The Ryedale Festival launches the full programme for its July Festival with this enticing Spring programme from the award-winning Carducci Quartet. Hear quartets by Haydn, Beethoven and Fanny Mendelssohn. Plus American composer Caroline Shaw’s technicolour dreamscape “Entr’acte”, inspired by Haydn’s world of classical balance and charm.

It’s also your chance to be the first to receive the full Summer programme brochure, distributed free at the end of the concert.

Hovingham Repair Cafe/Community Hub Saturday19March

Saturday 19 March, 10am – noon, Hovingham Village Hall.

The popular Repair Cafe returns, its purpose to reduce unnecessary waste and consumption, bringing items back to life by repairing and up cycling, sharing skills and tips. It’s free and run 100% by community volunteers. Some of the repairers live in Slingsby.  As well as repairing items, we’ll be focussing on ‘grow your own’ in the Community Hub.
