Photo of the Month: January

Sheep-in-snow | Photograph by Rob Racenis

Here is January’s photo of the month, and we have a beautiful winter image, taken by Rob Racenis  in January 2011, of sheep in the snow.

The photo was taken from a viewpoint along the old railway line at  Slingsby. A great place to have a walk.

Do you have a great photograph you’d like to share with us?

If you’d like to submit an image for the  photo of the month slot, you can send it to [email protected]

Hovingham Market wins award

A nice little reminder arrived recently in the website’s comment box from Mark Woolley of the Hovingham Market Group.

‘Just to let you know our special Christmas Market is on Saturday 17th December 10.30am-2.30pm.

Swinton Brass band will be playing festive tunes and Santa arrives for an hour at 11am with gifts for the children so bring the whole family.

Last chance before Christmas.

Hope to see you there (only a 5 min bus ride away!)’

There was also some more good news as Hovingham market has won yet another award from the National Market Traders Federation – Britain’s Most Improved Green Market

Hovingham Market beat off strong competition from markets located throughout the country.

In a press release, Mark Woolley, chair of the Hovingham Market Group, said “to win this prestigious award is fantastic recognition for our community’s achievements in its continued efforts to run a green and sustainable local village market. We promote local produce, and support local rural businesses, farmers and artisans. The whole community, the stall holders, our volunteer market team and our loyal shoppers must be congratulated in this success, they have all supported and continued to develop the markets green ethos which has once again achieved national recognition.”

Congratulations go to Mark and everyone involved.
