Slingsby’s Feathered Friends

Wildlife photography is hard at the best of times, but David Thornley has managed to capture some of the feathery friends visiting his garden.

Using a clever bit of technology designed to automatically photograph birds or any other wildlife that turns up, David has managed to capture a couple of great images of a Coal tit and an aerobatic Blue tit visiting his bird table.

Hopefully we may get to see what else visits David’s bird table over the coming months.

Car Boot Sale: Sunday 14th July

Car Boot sale at Slingsby

A reminder that a car boot sale will be taking place next Sunday (July 14th) on the sports field in Slingsby,  from 7 am to 2 pm (weather permitting, of course).

N.B. For general car boot queries, please ring the Sports Club on 01653 627124 (Friday 8.30 pm – 10.30 pm, Saturday 8.30 pm – 11.30 pm and Sunday 8.30 pm – 10.30 pm).

Ryedale Festival launches with a splash!

The 2013 Ryedale Festival launches with a splash tomorrow Friday 12 July with the traditional Community opera, Britten’s “Noyes Fludde” (the biblical story of Noah’s ark) plus a world premiere, the Ryedale Concerto by Cheryl Frances-Hoad.

Like many of the concerts this year, the opener is a sell-out, but don’t despair! There are still tickets available for a number of enticing events:

  • Saturday 13 July, 11am, hear the Yorkshire Young Musicians at Helmsley Arts Centre
  • Sunday 14 July, 3pm, Box Tale Soup’s version of Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey, a playful mix of puppetry, costume and wit at the Galtres Centre, Easingwold.
  • Thursday 18 July, 8pm at St Peter’s Church, Norton – Don’t miss the world-famous Labeque sisters playing Debussy, Ravel, Gershwin and Philip Glass.
  • Saturday 20 July 11am and 3.30pm, English music in the Saloon, Duncombe Park (one of our favourite venues, Ed.)
  • Monday 22 July, 11am. Hear oboe and piano music by Elgar, Britten etc in the delightful St Mary’s Church, Lastingham.
  • Wednesday 24 July, 11am, St Mary’s Priory, Old Malton – virtuoso double bass (yes!) and piano.
  • Friday 26 July, 11am, St Mary’s Church, Birdsall. Head to the Wolds for a welcome return of outstanding guitarists the Katona twins from Budapest.
  • Saturday 27 July, 3pm, All Saints’ Church, Helmsley – Kirbymoorside Brass Band
  • Saturday 27 July, 8pm, Pickering Kirk Theatre – Patricia Routledge in conversation about her exploits on the musical stage, with recordings.

Finally, there are a few tickets left for the magical musical mystery tour that is the “Ryecrawl”. Your day of adventure on Tuesday 23 July starts at 9.30 am in Pickering.

Summer Activity Day

Summer Activity Day for Children of Primary School Age: Monday 12th August 2013 10.30am—3.15pm

We would love to invite you to join us for a day of energetic fun!

This year have invited Zanna & Sam Dennis to lead our day.
Zanna is a Freelance Dance Artist and Sam is a keen sportsman who has for several years volunteered with the Christian organisation ‘Sports Reach’ on their holiday camps.

During the day children will have the chance to chose either a dance or football workshop and all will take part in a craft workshop led by local church members with passions for craft and cooking.
