Climate Change event – towards caring for God’s creation – responding to the unfolding disaster. Talks, Workshops, Displays.

Hovingham’s Project Purple (Hovingham’s group focused on reducing our carbon footprint) is arranging a minibus to take residents to the venue for a modest donation. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend this event If you would like to attend and would like to use the minibus please contact: [email protected] or telephone Ann Chapman 01653 627171. POSTPONED: Brideshead Festival, Castle Howard, June 2020

EVENT POSTPONED owing to Coronavirus: Ahead of the House reopening on 21 March 2020, Castle Howard have recently announced this new and exciting event which will mark the 75th anniversary of the publication of Evelyn Waugh’s seminal novel. The story was filmed at Castle Howard for the 1981 TV series and the subsequent feature film in 2008. The Brideshead Festival will be held from 26 to 28 June 2020 and will bring together the worlds of literature, film, TV and heritage. There will be a vibrant mix of speakers and performers, as well as a host of other associated activities.

Repair café, Hovingham, 14 March

NB. THE 13 JUNE REPAIR CAFE HAS BEEN CANCELLED OWING TO CORONAVIRUS.

Saturday 14 March, 9.30-11.30am, Hovingham Village Hall

Local residents are invited to bring along items that need repair. Volunteer specialists will mend or advise, free of charge. Save items from going to landfill. Items can include electrical, household, carpentry items, clothing mending and alterations.

EVENT POSTPONED – St Patrick’s Day with Malarkey and Friends

Saturday 21st March 2020, 7pm, Slingsby Village Hall

Celebrate St Patrick’s Day with Malarkey and Friends. Tickets (£10 including a 2-course supper) are selling well and it promises to be a fun night.

CANCELLED – Mayday FRIDAY 8 MAY – save the date!

Despite what your diary/calendar might say, Mayday this year will be FRIDAY 8th May, to fit in with the VE day anniversary. Celebrations in Slingsby will run on FRIDAY from 11am until 3pm.

Brass Bands, Morris dancers, teas, pulled pork sandwiches, ice-creams, an exhibition of ‘Slingsby at war’ (to commemorate VE day) and various stalls including children’s games. The centre piece will be the traditional maypole dancing by the children of Slingsby school. All this will take place on the village green or in the village hall. There will also be a scarecrow trail all around the village. Lots of fun for all the whole family.
