Community Song Cycle “Seven Mercies” in Pickering 21 May

Saturday 21 May 2022, 4pm, Pickering Parish Church.

Seven Mercies is a Community Song Cycle by composer Joseph Howard and writer Emma Harding, inspired by the famous murals of Pickering Church. An introductory talk on the murals will be given by Slingsby’s very own Dr Kate Giles (University of York).

A celebration of local heritage and local talent, it is about countering difficult times through small acts of kindness and selflessness, taking the form of a journey through hardship into light.

It is presented in association with the Richard Shephard Music Foundation, the charity which aims to help more children experience music in classrooms, and at events, across the region. The Foundation launched a partnership with Slingsby Community Primary School at the start of this year.

The headline musicians are acclaimed mezzo-soprano Kathryn Rudge and Ryedale Festival’s Artistic Director and renowned pianist Christopher Glynn.

Tickets: £10, £5 (UNDER 18). www.ryedalefestival.com

From Brideshead to Bridgerton at Castle Howard

In this unique display of Castle Howard on camera, get up close to original props and inspired costumes from period features.

Castle Howard has been the backdrop for much of the romance, drama and classics that have graced our screens over the years. Period pieces like Brideshead Revisited have become synonymous with the Castle Howard name, with many citing the house as a key inspiration for writer Evelyn Waugh. More recently, the Netflix and Shonda Rimes phenomenon drama, Bridgerton also transformed Castle Howard into Clyvdeon, the fictional estate of the duke.

This special exhibition, which opened on 1st May 2022, merges Castle Howard, Brideshead and Bridgerton for fans of all and more!

This exhibition is free with a valid house ticket.
