Talk: How to research your home’s history

Tuesday 15th May, 7.30. p.m, Village Hall Committee Room.  Dr Kate Giles, Slingsby’s own resident buildings archaeologist, will talk about how to research and record the history of your own house.  (One of the aims of the Local History Group is for members to research the history of their own houses to build up a community-based record.)  Kate Giles 628739

Ryedale Festival returns to Slingsby 16 July

For the first time in two decades Slingsby will host a concert as part of the renowned Ryedale Festival, which this year runs from 13 to 29 July.

The concert will be given by the acclaimed harpsichord player (and BBC New Generation Artist) Mahan Esfahani and will take place on Monday 16th July at 11 am in All Saints Church. The programme includes dance-based music from three centuries (Gibbons, Bach, Della Ciaja).

Slingsby Scarecrow Weekend 2012

Commencing at 12 noon on Saturday, 5th May Scarecrows will be on display around the village raising funds for the Friends of Slingsby School. In recent years over 30 scarecrows have been entered into the annual competition.

Trails are available for £1 from Robin Hood Caravan Park, Tony’s Village Shop and Slingsby School Reading Rooms from 12noon on Saturday 5th May until 4pm on Monday, 7th May.

There will be a prize draw for all those that vote for the winner of the scarecrow competition so you could win a £20 voucher just for voting for your favourite scarecrow.
